Started in 1921, Qantas is the number one Australian air carrier in terms of the number of international flights, and fleet size. After Avianca and KLM, it’s the third oldest air carrier worldwide. The company first rolled out international flights in 1935. The Australian airline turns out to be one of the key founders of the Oneworld airline alliance.
The company’s major hub is located at Sydney Airport. Extra hubs include Brisbane Airport and Melbourne Airport. The Australian air carrier claims to have a 65% share of the country’s market. What’s more, it reportedly ensures nearly 14.9% of all customers traveling in and out of Australia. A variety of subsidiary air carriers work in Australia under the brand name QantasLink. In addition to this, the company also owns a low-cost carrier working both on the domestic and international markets, Jetstar Airways.
The company currently offers up to 85 destinations. Among them, there are several exotic routes such as air travel to Antarctica. Qantas made the first flight to that cold continent in 1977.
The company’s fleet mostly represented by Airbus and Boeing planes is estimated at 136 aircraft. To learn more about their fleet, go to the corresponding section of our review site.
