Hands down the worst airport I've been in. Lack of places to sit in the airport lobby, crowded , very dirty ( actually saw a colony of ants feeding from bread leftovers, extremely overpriced food ( triple prices) and worst of all...people from bucharest.

Bucharest Henri Coanda airport is very small and the arrival gate is quite small. Sometimes the immigration officers could be quite intimidating but it?s not to be scared off as well to Albert is very clean and there is are very good collection conveyor belts for bags

The layout of the airport is somewhat unusual since instead of having terminals 1 and 2, it has a departure terminal and an arrivals terminal. Getting to and from the city takes time but the coming metro connection should speed it up in the future. Note that most smoking facilities on the inside will require you to buy pretty expensive drinks. But all in all, an ok and easy to navigate airport.

Henri Coanda or Otopeni is a compact airport with all you need, easy to get to and has good amenities etc, but is bursting at the seams in terms of coping with volume and capacity. If you get to the airport for an early red eye flight then normally the experience is ok, middle of the day can get a bit testing. Simply the airport is handling a volume of traffic now that seems a little more than it was designed for. In ten years it has seen passengers go from 3 million a year to nearly 13 million. There are plans to build a new terminal underway though. In general nice and functional, has all you need but can get busy.

Bucharest Airport isn't large and doesn't offer so many luxuries unlike some of the best airports in the world. I didn't really care about the luxuries, but I do care about my experience, which was overall pretty good. I've been to this airport many times, so I know it pretty well.

Even though Bucharest airport has a terminal extension that's quite nice and modern, problem is that the building itself is quite narrow with limited plugs and seats. All this combined creates a rather crowded feeling making the whole experience quite unpleasant.

Also, for its offer, the airport is quite expensive.

If you are a smoker you have nothing to worry about. There are at least 4 smoking rooms.

There are separate terminals for arrivals and departures. They are modern and clean. But there may be queues at the passport control (15 min for me) and at the booth where to buy the bus ticket (30 minutes for me) ! The return ticket costs 8,60 leva - ask for your change. The bus ride to the city center can last from 45 min to 1 hour.

OTP is a small international airport. Ways inside the Terminal are short, and there are no long waiting times at the security and passport control.
Staff is not very friendly.
Several restaurants are available in the security area. There are 2 smoking areas, not including the one in the lounges.

I've used this airport countless times, airport is trying to modernise, but yet. the airport doesn't have ATM beyond security and passport checks in departures, and still, if you like to buy from duty free stores. they will only accept Euro, or debit/credit cards. and yet Romania official currency is Romanian Lei.

Security control is disastrous. At busy times, queues are more than 50m long. There is no priority queue for frequent flyers or for short connection times. If you ask security staff politely, they tell you to check that everyone in front of you in the queue is fine with you jumping ahead.
The domestic departures section is really sad: one small ordinary duty-free, a tiny overly priced cafe with rubbish sandwiches, a large smoking lounge whose doors are always left open even by staff (filling the rest of the building with smoke), and no business lounge (only a VIP lounge, which is accessible only if you are accompanied by a member of staff).

Considering Bucharest airport is their main international airport, is is basic compared to many other European airports, I recently arrived at the airport, our flight arrived few minutes ahead of schedule at 00:45 and then we had to wait 15-20 minutes on the plane for the bus to transfer us to the arrival terminal, then we had 20--30minute wait queuing for passport processing, about 200-300 passengers in passport area waiting to be processed by 4-5 passport officials, then when went to collect our baggage, the flight no or where flight came from wasn't displayed and no officials to tell us or inform us which belt our baggage was on, many of us had to locate our own baggage, I've used this airport 30 plus time over the past 20 years, and from my personal experience arriving and traveling from is a basi airport, many staff members don't seem to care, poorly organised and basic facilities, even the duty free, passengers can't use Romania Lei cash to buy duty free items, so if you don't have Euros or bebit/credit cards, you can't buy duty free items, and again, everything is over priced..

The airport is ok, except the fact that the WiFi is sometimes a bit slow and is not working properly.
The most horrible thing about this airport is the transport, you have very few facilities to get to the city, just two buses (780 and 783) and cabs/uber or the personal car. The transport to it is just terrible!

Traffic figures seems to grow fast. Arrival passport control area needs more desks and queuing space (4 aren't enough + there is not enough room to wait..place gets jam packed). Escalator to passport control area wasn't working either.. many steps to climb carrying a child. Maintenance seems to be lacking in some other areas as well like toilets, hanging wires, damaged floors, broken x-ray machines, dated pay for parking machines etc.. Management should walk around more often and observe(+ correct) these things.

So I had a connecting flight in Bucharest, and my luggage had been tagged to go all the way through to the final destination. The bad surprise (but a lucky one too!) was that when I passed by the lugage belt of my arrival flight on the way to the next flight, I spotted my luggage on there. I asked the staff why my luggage was out for claiming when it was tagged to go all the way through, and their answer (after 10 minutes of mumbling) was that you cannot automatically transfer it in Bucharest, although the automatic transfer had been confirmed during initial check-in! I had to check it in again myself (I luckily had enough time between the flights).

I am traveling a lot from Bucharest Otopeni Airport for business purpose. I think is a really nice airport. It is easy to make the check in and security check. There is a really good duty free shop in the terminal. There are a little bit high prices but unfortunately this is the same situation nowadays at all airports. I definitely recommend.

I fly here at least once a month, and it feels as though they are improving just a little bit every time. It's my home airport and a very good one objectively speaking as well. It's now very spacious and welcoming.

I've been travelling from Bucharest airport for many years, I personally feel it one of the worse airports, from eating facilities to claiming baggage, the airport is basic compared to many other modern European countries airports, from resting areas, and few duty free stores and not very large selective of eating establishments, and even though I'm aware Romania shall be joining the Euro is the coming years, and Romania still use their Rom Lei, but if you would like to buy from the duty free stores, they will only accept Euros or credit cards/debit cards, even though country still use ROM Lei... So if plan on buying from the duty free shops (what little they have) it's always handy to take some Euros in cash..

Free wifi. Very clean. Modern and not too busy.
Currency exchange before security (buy in small quantities as exchange rate is better and available everywhere in bucharest).
Do not accept more than 50 leu on a taxi into bucharest. Taxi Ticket system can be confusing and unlike me, use a taxi that uses a meter and doesn't offer a false fixed price. I was charged nearly 4x the normal rate. Taxi drivers WILL rip you off remorsefully in bucharest, but they are still cheap. Next time I will arrive by bus into bucharest.

Nice airport. Had a flight departing about 6 AM... a little chaotic standing around waiting for the check-in desks waiting to be announced, but once it was posted, it went smoothly. Fast security and passport control. Nice duty free shop, couldn't connect to wifi.

I've been traveling to and from this airport a lot. I have to admit that it has improved a lot over the years. Last time I've been there over a year ago, so it might be even better now. Anyway I want to tell that it's still quite difficult to get to the airport from the city. The best connection now is the rail from the North Station, even for that you have to change to a shuttle. Another oddity at the airport is that the check-in is flight specific. If you get to the airport early and your specific flight is not up for check-in, you just can't go to any counter of your airline and check-in, you actually have to wait for your specific flight to be up.
Anyway, the food there is better now and cheaper and the WiFi is good, airport workers are polite and listen to your needs. At peak hours, the ckeck-in area can get quite crowded.

With the recent upgrades, OTP is now quite a good airport. Tip: go for the new wing or the departures terminal for the security check, there is no queue and you will pass very fast. Also, there is a touch screen system for ordering a legitimate taxi.
