Recommend 100% for connection to San Francisco. BART is just $10 to Downtown SF and frequent!
I can only speak for security check in Terminal 1, but both times I went through it it was quick and efficient - no hassle.
For 32 gates, good food options and handy tech vending machines with headphones etc.
