Reviews Shannon Airport

Shannon is a great airport on the West coast of Ireland. It had gotten a bit dated under the management of the DAA (Dublin Airport Authority) as this authority made this airport fail to help the larger Dublin airport grow faster. Since it got independence in 2013, ?2.6 million in investment has been put into the airport.
The greatest improvement is in the Duty Free, its bright, new, modern and refreshing. I flew out of Shannon for the first time this year last week and was amazed at the improvement. Shanon has a great road network to it, amazing WiFi, the facilities are good and much better than previously.
My flight was the 8:50 am flight to Heathrow, and I was met pleasantly by Aer Lingus staff at the large check in area. Smiles all around. Security was quick but thorough, after which we went into the amazingly refreshed duty free. The airport had a new businessesy feel to it. Boarding was quick. And flight took off 5 minuted early.
Tip: If going abroad for more than a week, park you car in the Park4less car park, the other ones a robbery. ?25 (Park4less) vs ?47.50 (regular car park) per week. I think I've seen advertising that say its the cheapest airport car park in Ireland.

Being local we always say that Shannon has potential to grow so much more and since its independence in 2013 growth has been remarkable. Traffic figures have grown year on year since along with a multi million investment to revamp departures, security and duty free.
Having been to many many airports across Europe and the USA, I can say that in terms of friendliness, ease and efficiency, Shannon tops the lot.
Plenty of parking, and a pint of Guinness comes at a very reasonable price compared to most places.
Hope to see Shannon continue to grow as it has done in the past 3/4 years, Summer '17 looking promising already with Lufthansa and Norwegian adding routes in the space of the last 3 weeks.

I think it needs more in the departure lounge. I know the airport has seen a drop in business over the last few year, but it does need to invest in facilities for passengers waiting to board the plane. I also think floors and ceilings need to be brought into the 21st century in the arrivals area.
