Reviews Tokyo Narita International Airport

This airport is situated in Chiba pref, located east of Tokyo pref. It takes about 80 min to go to Shinjuku by limousine. Buildings were very clear and large. I could choose my seat at the time of check-in. There are many restaurants before passing security check. The plain departed on time and it was uncrowded.

NRT was my entry and exit point for a recent trip to Japan. I really enjoyed the experience.
Customs/immigration was a breeze. *Vastly* quicker and easier than when I returned to the US.
Variety of ways to get to/from the airport. I used the Narita Express train to central Tokyo and thought it was well worth it. Clean, quiet, on time train (a recurring theme in Japan!) with frequent departures.
Generally a pretty decent terminal, lots of little shops for last minute souvenirs or gifts to bring back. I only visited one lounge - ANA - and that it was a little crowded was my only complaint.

The international terminal has plenty of shops and restaurants from low to high end. the recently-(re)-opened Starbucks is a welcome addition. The ANA lounge has better food than the United lounge, although both can be crowded.

Plane refuels at NRT, two hour layover, NRT is ok for food (great udon and sushi if you know where to look), services limited, best to go to the airline lounge. ANA First Class lounge is one of the best, as good as SQ for sure. Udon cooked to order, good but not great selection of hot and cold dishes and drinks. The lounge is comfortable, quiet, wasn't crowded, and the service by the Japanese staff was outstanding.

Narita is efficient and friendly although Terminal 2 is lacking somewhat in shops. In all, any check in and through Narita is a smooth, easy procedure that is made as hassle free as possible. And, of course, everything works!

Great airport though no lounges in our terminal. Fairly good food, a lot of shopping, there was currently a Toto gallery of toilets there and a free kimono wearing session. Can spend hours there comfortably in peace - many comfortable large chairs, outlets, wifi and other amenities.

Far away from Tokyo, but good railway options to get to it. The airport is clean, staff are very polite. There aren't much options to eat near the gates, though. Perfect organisation on security checks

Narita Airport, aka *new* Tokyo International Airport, is open since 1979, though the location is way too far east from the downtown Tokyo (expect 2 hours) in the middile of Chiba prefecture. You need to show your ID to enter the airport due to the persistent threat of political terrorist movement surrounding the airport before its opening. The facility is clean and world-class. ANA and Star Alliance Gold members can use the arrival/connection lounge before taking a domestic flight.

Narita as always is fast and efficient, they have everything you need including free wifi. The airport limousine busses are fantastic and cheap to get in and out of the airport and all of the Airport hotels offer free shuttles to and from their hotel which makes a stopover so much easier.

NRT terminals are narrow with limited food and services, pretty good Japanese selection (but can't beat Haneda), awful English language book and magazine selection.
After experiencing the LAX Star Alliance lounge, it's hard to compare the ANA First Class lounge. Interior is enclosed but high quality, zen-like sensation. Food and service is excellent. Much better than LAX.

Pretty good airport. Check in was efficient and the hall is huge. Finding departures was the hardest bit because of the maze of shops land side just behind the check in desks, its like a shopping centre! Departures is OK. American Airlines lounge is OK but not great because there is no hot food and surprising the staff are quite slow. A really long walk to the plane sometimes so leave lots of time if or gate is a long way from the departure lounge. Too and from Nartia is best on the subway system, cheaper and takes about 1 hour. There is an express train but is very expensive.

Large and spaceful, although a bit old in some areas. Check-in was fast, a surprise for a US-bound flight. Security check was also problemless. There are much options for food and for shopping. Despite being located away from Tokyo, it is just a fast trip through the Narita Express train.

Two terminals divided largely alongside the global alliances with the LCCs largely relegated to T2. However terminals are not connected and one has to rely on a complimentary inter-terminal shuttle bus departing roughly every 15 minutes. So something to take note of. Otherwise the airport itself, while slightly dated, still boasts Japanese efficiency and offers something for everyone even in the public areas with a wide range of shops and dining options. There are also ample spotting opportunities with open-air observatories.

Narita Airport is a bit far away from the center of Tokyo, however Narita Express offers easy connections between Tokyo and Narita Airport. Both check-in and the security check were efficient. The terminal facilities were better than good, but there are very little shops, cafes, and restaurants. Otherwise Narita Airport is a very nice better than average airport.

Seeing as the Japanese generally are very organized and do things in a strict order I was surprised to see that the airport didn't quite reflect that. The lines were rather long and there didn't seem to be very much control over what was happening (this could in part be due to the fact that the people supposedly in charge of helping people spoke little to no English so unless you were Japanese they weren't of much help). Other than that it was fine.

I hadn't been to Japan for 25 years and I remembered Narita as a convenient airport. Compared to many airports in Asia, I therefore was surprised by the general impression I got when flying in today. Immigration/customs are OK, but the service area once you arrive is very confusing, few signs in English, difficult to find your way... You have to search for a long time before finding an ATM which is not just a money exchange machine. I tried to buy a data SIM card for my pocket WiFi router but that turned out to be impossible, there are some parameters which do not configurate automatically (whereas this works in countries as diverse as Russia or Australia). Wanting to buy a Narita Express ticket, the automatic ticketing machines do not take foreign credit cards, and even at the counter my Visa card did not work so I had to pay with cash!!! Where did the smooth, seamless Japanese automation go?

Long way out of the city and expensive on the Skyliner at 2500 Yen each way.
security and check in were both very efficient and quick.
IETS lounge was one of the worst I have been in, no food and only one drink!
Free wifi throuhgout is good.
not many food choices and hardly anything for vegetarians.

This review and rating is for T3, not for T1 and T2 which are much better.
Even though the access is still a pain, T3 (LCC Terminal) is getting better.
The terminal itself is fairly tiny which makes it easy to use (no chance to get miss) and less crowded.
Personally I love the food lounge of T3, cheap and delicious. Retail service is also growing. There is a few tax-free shops located in the side of international flights (even one upon arriving). For domestic, there is only one shop and a few vending machines after security check.
As a LCC terminal (used to be a cargo terminal in the past), do never expect its lounges and facilities. But it is simple and easy, just the same as LCC.

Many staff at the airport are unable to communicate in English and speak a lot of Japanese to passengers which they all don't understand. Shops need to contain many many more cashier especially for food and souvenir such as Royce, Potato Farm, Tokyo Banana and that sort of sweets. There are 2 shops in Terminal 1 which has about 20-40 people waiting to make a payment. The immigration needs to be faster than now. It was overloading of passengers in that area.
